About Consults:
Osteopaths assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal disorders, employing a holistic, evidence-informed approach that considers the body's structure and function as interconnected systems.
Osteopaths in Australia complete a double degree and have a heavy focus on research, anatomy, physiology as well as musculoskeletal evaluation (including radiology), pathology and physical assessment. This rigorous training equips them to assess and manage a wide range of conditions, including back and neck pain, headaches, sports injuries, and postural issues. Treatment modalities may involve manual therapy techniques such as stretching, soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, and manipulation, tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
It's important to note - we don't believe manual therapy alone is the key to managing complaints. Both Brooke and Cat have both completed further training in Pilates and complete regular professional development seminars and tutorials in exercise management for complaints.
Central to osteopathic practice is a patient-centred philosophy that emphasises the body's innate capacity for self-healing. Osteopaths prioritise open communication, actively involving patients in their care plans and providing education on lifestyle, ergonomics, and exercise to support long-term health and wellbeing.
Osteopaths often collaborate within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, working alongside general practitioners, physiotherapists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive care. Their holistic approach and commitment to evidence-based practice make osteopathy a valuable option for individuals seeking to manage pain, enhance mobility, and improve overall quality of life.
What to Expect in a Consult
At Flinders Osteo, we take a thoughtful and individualised approach to care. Each treatment is carefully adapted to suit your body, your history, and your goals. We consider not just your condition, but also your age, background, and overall health to ensure our approach is both effective and respectful of your needs. Our hands-on techniques are direct and often focused on the areas causing discomfort. While you may feel some intensity during the session, your comfort is always central to what we do—we rely on your feedback to guide the process and keep within your tolerance. We also take time to explain our methods, helping you understand how each step supports your recovery.

Step 1: Clinical History
Your consultation begins with a comprehensive discussion about your primary concerns, previous treatments, and specific goals for seeking osteopathic care. We'll also review your medical history, including any surgeries or ongoing health conditions, to ensure a safe and tailored approach to your treatment.
Step 2: Clinical Examination
We'll assess your posture, range of motion, and perform functional movement tests to identify potential causes of your symptoms. This may include measuring blood pressure, conducting neurological assessments, or other relevant screenings to evaluate your overall health. You may also be asked to complete outcome measures to help us track your progress and evaluate the effectiveness of your treatment plan.
Step 3: Treatment and Management
Treatment strategies are personalised and may involve manual therapy techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, stretching, dry needling, or muscle activation methods. Alternatively, some sessions may focus solely on exercise-based therapy, emphasising movement and rehabilitation without manual intervention.
Step 4: Exercise and Advice
Based on your individual needs, we often provide a customised rehabilitation program for you to follow at home. Whenever possible, these programs are grounded in clinical guidelines; when such guidelines are unavailable, we rely on our professional expertise to design exercises that align with your activity level and support your recovery goals.
