When recovering from an injury, surgery, or managing a chronic condition, consistency is one of the most important parts of rehabilitation. But sticking to your rehab exercises every single day can feel unrealistic. The Two Day Rule is a concept created by Matt D’Avella. He says: Never skip the thing you’re trying to accomplish more than two days in a row. This helps keep your recovery moving forward without the pressure of being perfect.

We often remind our patients that rehab isn’t about doing everything perfectly every day—it’s about regular input to help your body adapt, heal, and strengthen. The 2-Day Rule allows for flexibility when life gets in the way, while still maintaining the momentum needed for recovery. Missing two or more days in a row can slow progress or even reverse gains, so having a rule of thumb like this can keep your rehab consistent and sustainable.

If you’re in the middle of a rehab program, try using the 2-Day Rule as a motivator. It’s not about guilt—it’s a gentle nudge to stay engaged in your recovery. Need help adjusting your rehab plan or staying on track? Book in with one of our practitioners. We can tailor your program to your life and help you build habits that stick.
